Description:

A splendid journey from the capital city of Hanoi to the Gulf of Tonkin, where the stunning beauty of Halong Bay can be admired from a traditional junk.

Another place of extraordinary scenery is the Hai Van Pass between the Imperial city of Hue and the old port town of Hoi An.

The two-day trip from Ho Chi Minh City to Mekong Delta, one of the world’s largest rivers, is another highlight of this Vietnam trip.

Day 1: Hanoi

Meet on arrival at Hanoi Noi Bai International Airport, and transfer to your hotel.

City tour (time permitting, depending on arrival time): visit Temple of Literature, built in the 11th century as Vietnam’s first university, the Fine Arts Museum (closed on Mondays. If Day 1 falls on a Monday it will be replaced with another site) and Quan Thanh Temple.

In the evening, enjoy the Water Puppet Show, a unique Vietnamese traditional art form.

Day 2: Hanoi – Halong Bay

Today’s visits in Hanoi include Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum (closed on Mondays, Fridays and from October to November for maintenance) and his former residence, continue to One-Pillar Pagoda and Army Museum (closed on Mondays. It can be skipped or replaced by another site, for example, Ethnography Museum, depending on interest).

Lunch at local restaurant.
Drive to Halong in the afternoon (170 km east of Hanoi – 3 ½ hours).

Dinner at hotel and accommodation in Halong.

Day 3: Halong Bay – Hanoi

Discover Halong Bay, listed as a World Heritage Site for its outstanding natural beauty. “The Dragon descending to the sea” as it is known in Vietnamese, the picturesque Halong Bay has more than 3,000 limestone islets rising from clear emerald waters, many of them containing beautiful grottoes. Some of them you will be able to visit during this 4-hour boat cruise. Seafood lunch on board.

Drive back to Hanoi late afternoon.

Day 4: Hanoi – Hue

Transfer to the airport for the flight to Hue, the royal city of Vietnam’s last ruling dynasty.
Arrive in Hue, transfer to the city center. Lunch at local restaurant.

Sightseeing in Hue: visit royal tombs of King Tu Duc, King Khai Dinh and Tu Hieu pagoda.

Dinner and accommodation in Hue.

Day 5: Hue – Danang – Hoi An

Take a dragon boat and cruise along the Perfume River passing Dong Ba market to Thien Mu Pagoda, then visit the vestiges of the royal residence at the Imperial City.

Lunch at local restaurant.

In the afternoon, depart from Hue for Hoi An via the picturesque Hai Van Pass (Pass of the Ocean Clouds) moving through many pretty red-tiled villages and enjoying a spectacular view of the sea and the sky. Visit Cham Museum in Danang and proceed to Hoi An.

Day 6: Hoi An – Danang – Ho Chi Minh city

Take a walking tour to discover the historic town which used to be a prosperous seaport city during the 16th to 18th centuries. Visit the Hoi An market, Tan Ky ancient house, Japanese covered bridge and Fukien Assembly Hall.

Transfer to Danang airport for an evening flight to Ho Chi Minh City.
Upon arrival, pickup and transfer to hotel for check-in.

Day 7: Ho Chi Minh city – Cai Be – Vinh Long – Can Tho

Coach trip to Cai Be (2½-hour drive from Ho Chi Minh City) and a wooden boat ride to Vinh Long. Visit the canal where the colorful floating market of Cai Be is located and see the locals producing rice popcorn and other sweets.

In the afternoon, continue cruising along fruit orchards in narrow canals to the town of Vinh Long located on the opposite bank of the Mekong River.

Drive to Can Tho and check in at hotel.

Dinner and accommodation in Can Tho.

Day 8: Can Tho – Ho Chi Minh city

Early in the morning, take a boat trip to visit the Cai Rang floating market. Afterwards, visit a fruit orchard and taste tropical fruits of the Mekong Delta.

Return to Ho Chi Minh City in the afternoon. Lunch en route.

Accommodation in Ho Chi Minh City.

Day 9: Ho Chi Minh city - Cu Chi tunnels

In the morning, drive to Cu Chi Chi (75 km northwest of Ho Chi Minh City) to visit an amazing complex of underground tunnels used by Vietcong rebels during the American war. Return Ho Chi Minh City, lunch at local restaurant.

In the afternoon, visit Chợ Lớn (Chinatown) and Thien Hau temple. Continue sightseeing with a photo stop at the former Presidential Palace and Notre Dame Cathedral, if time permits.

Day 10: Ho Chi Minh city - Departure

Leisure time until transfer to Tan Son Nhat airport for departure flight
