- A destination still ignored by mass tourism and its fabulous flora and fauna
This tour lets you discover North Sulawesi in four days.
You will visit Tangkoko nature reserve, which is located at the foot of Dua Saudara Mountain. Tomohon is a market where you can discover traditional food and flowers.
For some insights into pottery-making, Pulutan is a perfect industrial village. Trekking to the crates edge, with panoramic views will be done on Mount Mahawu.
Lake Linow is a sulfuric lake. The changing chemical composition of the lake means that it changes colors often.
Day 1: Manado city/airport – Tangkoko nature reserve
Depart from Hotel in Manado city or Sam Ratulangi Airport, then directly drive to Tangkoko Nature Reserve. The 2-hours trip to this 9,000-hectare nature reserve is quite scenic.
Lunch will be served at local restaurant.
At the Nature Reserve, you will be guided by forest rangers in search of the Black Crested Macaque (Black Monkey indigenous to North Sulawesi), hornbills, and couscous as well as other fauna specific to the reserve.
We will then head into the denser part of the jungle as the sun is setting, where you will be able to get photographs of the Tarsius (world’s smallest primate). Afterward we will drive to the chosen Resort in The Highland of Tomohon.
Day 2: Minahasa highland tour
Leaving the Resort, we first stop at Pagoda Ekayana in the village of Kakaskasen. A place of worship for Buddhists, the pagoda also welcomes visitors to admire its architectures that blend well with the surrounding nature.
Afterwards we proceed to see the traditional food & flower market in Tomohon and to the small village of Woloan to see the Minahasan traditional style houses being built, knock down style, ready for delivery or shipping.
We will have lunch on Tondano Lake while enjoying the serenity of the lake and its surrounding hills.
After lunch we drive to Pulutan Village, an industrial village for pottery-making. As we start back to the Resort, the bentenan weaving workshop is a must to visit and see the local weaving traditions being practiced.
Day 3: Mahawu volcano tour
We head to the base of Mount Mahawu, to begin the 30 minutes trek to the crate’s edge. This is an easy and relaxed trek with many stops to see the panoramic views.
From that vantage point we can see Bunaken & Manado Tua Islands as well as the bay of Manado.
A walk around the crater’s rim will take us 45-60 minutes, and we can also observe a steaming lake and experience the smell of sulfur from the pools.
After the hike we will drive to Lake Linow, a sulfuric lake, to have lunch (canoeing the lake is possible, optional & subject to availability) and then we drive you back to the Resort.
Day 4: Tomohon – Manado city/airport /Gangga island
At the appropriate time we will pick you up from the resort and transfer to Manado city or to the airport to catch your next flight, or for further transfer to Gangga Island Resort.
