We cross the Bali strait, short ferry to Java, passing Kali Klatak the pioneer of agro tourism in Indonesia.
Ijen crater is the biggest crater lake in Java. The sulfur Crater Lake lies between a natural dams of deeply etched rock. It is 200 meters deep and contains about 36million cubic meters of steaming acid water, shrouded in a smelling swirling sulfur cloud.
Day 1: Denpasar – Banyuwangi Kali Klatak Tour
Pick up from your hotel in South Bali for the four hour drive to Gilimanuk.
Here you will board the public car ferry and cross the Bali strait to Ketapang, East Java.
From Ketapang, drive to Kali Klatak plantation for lunch at a coffee plantation. See how coffee and rubber is planted and processed before transferring to your hotel.
Rest of the day is free at leisure.
Day 2: Ijen crater – Bali
An early morning start for today’s tour. After breakfast at the hotel, drive to the slope of Mount Ijen, passing through plantations and rainforest.
Upon arrival at the Park Ranger’s post you will exit your vehicle and start hiking up to the slope of the crater. About 1,5 - 2 hours is needed to reach the rim of the crater along a shady track with amazing views.
Take a rest on the edge of the crater at 2380-meter altitude. The sulfuric lake reflects eerie color over the surrounding walls to give an apocalypse like impression. Men seeking the sulfur descend into the crater and climb back up along the dangerous rim with loads of up to 80 kilos on their shoulders.
Afterwards making your descent, your vehicle will be waiting to transfer you to the port and then cross the strait and back to Denpasar.
