Description:

Drive through the western part of Bali and crossing the narrow strait between Bali and Java. Banyuwangi bustling harbor, Kawah Ijen and the sulfur collectors are a sight not to miss.

Kalibaru an old Dutch Plantation village, is still surrounded by some of the biggest plantations in Java, mainly coffee, cacao and latex, are found in this area. We will visit one of these plantations.

Sukamada lays on the southernmost tip of Java, unique because of it many turtles visiting the beach.


Day 1: South Bali – Banyuwangi

We pick you up from your hotel in South Bali and proceed via Tabanan and Negara to the ferry terminal in Gilimanuk on the north western tip of Bali.
Then cross the Bali Strait to Banyuwangi.

You will arrive in the early afternoon and check in into your hotel.

Day 2: Banyuwangi – Kawah Ijen – Kalibaru

Early morning, departure to the Ijen Highlands. From the village of Licinonwards we transfer you with an off road vehicle. It takes approximately one and a half hours to walk the steep path that leads to the crater of Mount Ijen.

Ijen Crater is almost 2900 meters high and one of Indonesia’s most impressive volcanoes. It is an unforgettable experience to watch how hundreds of men are hauling heavy loads of sulfur that is extracted near the lake inside the crater.

After walking down for having a picnic lunch, proceed to Kalibaru and check into your hotel.

Day 3: Kalibaru – Sukamade

We drive you through the extensive plantations of East Java and the mountain range of the Meru Betiri nature reserve to the protected Sukamade ‘Turtle Beach’, a wild 3 kilometer sand strip on the Indian Ocean where 5 species of turtles come ashore to lay their eggs.

Stay at the lodge nearby and return to the beach at night for turtle spotting. Conditions here are very basic, but visitors always enjoy and come back with an experience that is both, unique and bound to become exceedingly rare.

Day 4: Sukamade – Banyuwangi

Spend the morning exploring the surroundings of Sukamade. This is an area virtually avoid of people. Go and take a dip in crystal clear waters of the nearby river.

Leave in the early afternoon to your hotel in East Java before dark.

Day 5: Banyuwangi – Bali

After breakfast, free at your leisure until time to transfer you to Gilimanuk by crossing the strait by public ferry for Bali Island.

We take you back to your hotel in South Bali or to the airport.
