Gently cruising through the vast rainforest of Kalimantan you immediately feel like an explorer in one of the world’s most remotes areas.
Build according to local traditions, the boat offers all the comfort you need to enjoy a magnificent trip into the hearted a jungle.
Two islands in the world are home to an ever dropping Orang-utan population, Kalimantan is one of them and if lucky you can enjoy the sight of these “people of the Jungle”.
Day 1: Arrival Palangkaraya – Start cruise
Arrive at Palangkaraya airport, meet and greet with our representative and transfer to the jetty where you will board your boat.
Cruise along the jungle lined river, passing villages and to your first orangutan feeding station.
In the early evening, take the canoe on the black water lake and make a short stop for a stroll around Kalaweit Island. Keep an eye out for proboscis monkeys, hornbills and Brahmini kites.
Return to the boat for a quiet dinner in the midst of the Jungle.
Day 2: Bapallas island – Kanarakan
The boat moves up the Rungan River towards Bapallas Island. Here you will take the motorized canoe to observe the Orangutans.
After jump back on the canoe to the BOSF Education centre (Open only Saturday and Sunday). Learn about the BOSF rehabilitation programs and watch a short orangutan release video.
Return to the boat and have a leisurely lunch on board while cruising to Kanarakan. Arriving in the afternoon, you are welcomed by the village elder with a Dayak Ngaju welcoming ceremony.
Explore the village by foot with a local host who will introduce you the village home gardens, rubber fields & rubber tapping trees and other village livelihoods. Visit to the elder’s house and enjoy the traditional spices coffee while sharing stories.
Back to the boat and cruise down to Lake Tahai for overnight.
Day 3: Tahai – Sei Gohong – Bapallas and Kalaweit
Leisurely breakfast on board.
Visit the village of Sei Gohong to meet a traditional medicine expert and take a short walk to the nearby forest to find several plants that are used by the Ngajus as traditional medications.
Back to the village, where you can see a larger collection of the traditional medicines and discuss their function with the locals.
Back to the boat and cruise downstream to Muara Rungan passing Katimpung Village.
Overnight near Muara Rungan.
Day 4: Bukit Rawi – Muara Rungan
After breakfast the boat cruises to Tanjung Sangalang for check out and then transfer you to the airport for your onward flight to your next destination.
