Not far from Balikpapan is the Sambodja Eco lodge, the home of Bos or Borneo Orangutan survival.
The organization cares for Orangutan, by reintroducing them into the wild, where they belong. Follow ranger into the forest and see these magnificent animals, in their natural habitats.
Day 1: Balikpapan – Samboja
Arrival at Balikpapan and proceed by car to Samboja Lodge.
In the late afternoon, observe the Orangutans around the lodge before enjoying your dinner.
Day 2: Trekking - 5 km/3 hours
After breakfast, spend some time planting fruit trees to support the found supply for the orangutan foundations Orangutans.
Observe the Orangutans around the lodge, and other wild animals such as the sun bear.
This area is strictly for the Orangutans survival foundation which has been in operation in Borneo since 1992. Currently, Samboja Lodge has about 210 Orangutans that have been released in the surrounding areas of the lodge.
After lunch drive to Bukit Bangkiray for a trek through the rainforest and over the canopy Bridge. If there is enough time you may also enjoy a canoe trip on the black river, where you may be able to spot proboscis monkeys.
Return to the lodge and spend the rest of the day is free at leisure.
Day 3: Samboja – Airport
Early trekking is available around the lodge for feeding time at around 7.00am.
At the appropriate time pick up from the lodge and transfer to Balikpapan airport to catch your flight to your onward destination.
